More Fathers Are Living The #SAHD Life in the US

The COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped our working lives, and continues to do so to this day. One major change that has taken shape, is that many fathers opted to do the “stay at home dad life” life in 2021, to the tune of 2.1 million fathers, 8 percent increase since 1989.

Christina Marfice, writing for Tinybeans:

Experts believe the rise of stay-at-home dads across the U.S. is, at least in part, because women are beginning to out-earn their male partners. Women have outpaced men at earning college and advanced degrees for over two decades now, and because of this, more men are choosing to give up their careers when full-time childcare is required. And with the dramatic rise in childcare costs in recent years, it’s becoming more and more necessary for families to have a parent stay home, rather than sending their kids to daycare.

I would definitely agree with lots of the above. Our family decided to do something similar once we realized that one of our incomes was basically just going toward childcare, not resulting in any additional income.

The benefits have definitely outweighed the positives in terms of being able to interact and engage with our children more. The time and financial savings of not having a commute anymore has also been beneficial.
